About Me

Over the course of his 40+ years as a photographer, Gordon Lewis has been a contributing editor to several photo magazines (all extinct),creator of the Shutterfinger blog (now inactive), and author of Street Photography: The Art of Capturing the Candid Moment (still in print, but who knows for how long).

Gordon's passion for photography began when he was a middle school student in Los Angeles, California. His first camera was a Graflex 4x5 Speed Graphic, which explains his lasting appreciation for cameras that weigh less than 5 pounds and shoot more than 2 images at a time.

He learned film processing and printing in high school in Sedona, Arizona, where the abundance of red rocks, prickly pear cactus, and Ponderosa pine inspired a love for street photography. College provided ideal conditions for refining his art: high-population density, a functional mass transit system, and frequent political turmoil.

His photographic style is characterized by a combination of careful composition and fleeting moments, a carefully chosen color palette, and an eye for graphic design—that, and occasionally being in the right place at the right time.

All images on this website are available for custom printing by Gordon himself. If you think these web images look fabulous, you should see the prints! He's also available for paid assignments and speaking engagements. If you’re interested, or you’d just like to reach out, feel free to use the contact form below.
